What's wrong with Dukey? - Director's Commentary Edition
Friday Sep 26, 2014
Friday Sep 26, 2014
This is not a normal Dukey Radio Show podcast. That said, how much normality features in this show is up for debate at the best of times. And this is not the best of times. With a nod of the hat to the director’s commentaries that feature in the extras of many a DVD as well as the play “Jeffrey Bernard is unwell”, this installment sees your host attempting to dissect “What’s wrong with Dukey?”
Using his name in the third person may be the first port of call.
The posh lad who talks daft will be giving an insight into some behind the scenes factoids about the show as well as well as trying to work out why he’s been feeling a bit low as of late. But, rather than being a whinge-fest, Dukey is even amusing when feeling low.
In addition, Slutty Sue will be getting dirty with her nib and a novel way to remove an unsavoury audience member at a thrash gig gets explored in detail.

This multi-installment Edinburgh Fringe Festival themed edition of the Dukey Radio Show is different than our usual format. And not just because it’s a “multi-installment” edition either. Taking its inspiration from Nathan Penlington’s highly innovative “Choose Your Own Documentary” show, which took its own inspiration from the iconic “Choose Your Adventure” series of books – this podcast allows the listener to take control. And to choose how they take in the Dukey Radio Show’s unique take on the world’s largest cultural festival. There are three options in total and all are described in detail in the Choose Your Own Podcast – Prologue. And these three options, listed below, are available as separate standalone podcasts.
Choose Your Own Podcast - Option A - Memorable Moments from the Edinburgh Fringe (Available to Download Separately)
- A short, sharp and to the point take on the bits of the Fringe Festival that created the most prominent wrinkles in our respective brains. From witnessing sock puppets recreating an iconic scene from Basic Instinct to being caught in the violent crossfire of a midnight performance where the heckling audience took over the show. We've narrowed it down to 5. This podcast is ideal for people with limited patience, ADHD or who can't handle having their earbuds in situ for prolonged periods. For those Dukey Radio Show listeners of a more audio marathon bent, Option C may be more suitable. But there are pitfalls to both. You have been warned.
Choose Your Own Podcast - Option B - Moments from the Edinburgh Fringe that we could have done without (Available to Download Separately)
- Marsha McDonald hosts this irreverent take on the "not so good" elements of the Edinburgh Fringe. From combatting aggressive flyering people to listening to an explosive one-hour flatulist extravaganza, this segment will make you grateful for the things you may have missed at the Fringe Festival. If you fancy finding out what its like to be the maxi pad for a needy comedian during his performance - this is the podcast for you.
Choose Your Own Podcast - Option C - Memorable Mobile Moments from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Available to Download Separately)
- Recorded in mid-transit somewhere on the motorway between Edinburgh and Carlisle, this is the Dukey Radio Show's first foray into mobile podcast recording. And it features a very detailed take on the memorable moments of the Edinburgh Fringe as outlined in Option A. Including Dukey’s quasi-orgasmic reaction to driving by the Eddie Stobart Truck Depot. Find out why by tuning in to this mobile bad-boy.

Jump The Sharknado
Sunday Aug 03, 2014
Sunday Aug 03, 2014
What better time than the week of the release of Sharknado 2: The Second One (yes that really is part of the title) than for theme of the Dukey Radio Show to be ‘Jump the Sharknado’?
Listen in as Dukey, Marsha and Sylvia vacillate wildly from discussion topics ranging from the playing of invisible instruments in Finland to the Matchmaking King of Ireland, Willy Daley. They pause to ponder on whether Willy has a daughter called Fanny before lamenting the sad fact that the main star in the Sharknado franchise is unable to even pronounce his own name.
You will hear it here first as Marsha and Dukey devise a plot for Sharknado 3: The Third One, (should it be called the ‘Turd’ one?) were it to be based in London. Just how could one of London’s iconic buildings be put to use as a shark killer?
Oh, and Sylvia drops a c-bomb, Irene and Roy sing a duet (well they do until she loses her temper with him) and guess what filthy Spanish resort Slutty Sue has taken off to for her summer holiday?

MOT'd Off
Thursday Jul 24, 2014
Thursday Jul 24, 2014
This week Dukey and his partners in radio crime are ‘MOT’d’ off. They’ll discuss the costly adventures of Dukey’s dear old Volvo’s MOT ordeal. And just why did the car mechanic laugh at Dukey when he was finally allowed to take up possession of his beloved green Swedish beast?
They’ll also explore the pertinent questions of the week such as, does writing a song on a famous person’s guitar count as a collaboration with that instrument’s owner? Does a certain disgraced cyclist ever not act like an unsavoury character? Why does a certain type of North American woman immediately take offence at Dukey’s very being? And what is the ‘stuff’ in Oreos and why is double better than single?
Sylvia Silversmith will inform you of a Spanish death festival with a difference and a charity run where wobbling is essential.
Marsha reveals why she is proud of her overhearing some horsing around on London transport. And Slutty Sue has been doing it on the rough.

That's All Spokes
Friday Jul 11, 2014
Friday Jul 11, 2014
Dukey, Sylvia & Marsha discuss menstrual cycles (and bicycles) in great depth on this week’s show. The Tour De France is in full pedal across the channel after weaving its way through England this week. But, more importantly, Sylvia has recently purchased a stationary bike to use within the comforts of her London flat. Find out how she been getting on with her very own Tour De Sitting Room. Dukey also contemplates what it’s like to have a male public fornicator (a porn star in other words) as a fan of his band. Sylvia also reminisces about a family Christmas dinner that was accidentally violated by the glories of adult cinema. What did her mum and dad do? You’ll have to listen in to find out more.
In addition:
- In “Scintillating Situations in Your City”, Sylvia examines “Hot Tub Cinema” in London & NYC alongside South Korea’s “Mud Festival”.
- Marsha (our roving reporter with the razor sharp voice) explores a novel way of celebrating good news in “Overheard”.
- Slutty Sue gets decidedly dirty while being hands on with a ball.
All of this and ever so slightly more.

Are You Newish?
Thursday Jul 03, 2014
Thursday Jul 03, 2014
The theme for this week’s Dukey Radio Show is “Are You Newish?”. With both Canada Day and the 4th of July being celebrated this week, it seems a fitting time to examine and discuss the glories of the new(ish) world. From sharing the little differences between our respective cultures to bigging up all that we love about our cousins on the other side of the pond, it’s time to dig out your sparklers and put lashings of maple syrup over everything you eat and drink while tuning in.
In addition:
- In “Scintillating Situations in Your City”, Sylvia Silversmith explores snail racing in Norfolk and a punctual glockenspiel wielding pied piper in Germany.
- Marsha (our roving reporter with the razor sharp voice) quantifies the ideal amount of gayness in “Overheard”
- Slutty Sue, fresh from a dirty weekend at Glastonbury Festival, reveals what she got up to with a tent.
- Using the freezer to clean your jeans with? Yay? Or No Way?
- Does walking around a city centre with a bag over your head bring out the best in people? Or is it a precursor to getting sectioned.
